Caroline is coming to us from the east coast of Canada, hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Caroline studies at Dalhousie University, pursuing her passion for neuroscience. Throughout high school Caroline had been the stage manager organizing the school musicals and had been on the executive council for yearbook. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, photography, sailing, and travelling the world. On her most recent trip to Curacao, she received her certification to become a scuba diver. For many summers now Caroline has either been on the laser radial race team or coaching young sailors in mastering the art that is sailing. In Nova Scotia, Caroline was a camper Big Cove YMCA camp where she went on to complete the leadership program. This summer it is Caroline’s 1st year at Camp Arowhon and she is so excited to meet everyone, make friends and have an amazing summer out on Teepee Lake!
Ellie will be returning for her 9th summer at camp after taking a year off to travel and complete a course. Although this will be her 1st year on staff, she was a camper at Arowhon for 7 years before completing the LIT program. Ellie has volunteered running clubs with underprivileged youth. She is from Toronto and attends Parsons School of Design in New York City. As a counsellor, she hopes to give her campers the same amazing experiences she was provided as a camper at Arowhon. Ellie cannot wait to be back on the shores of Teepee Lake indulging her passion for the outdoors.
Will is from Toronto and is a student at CHAT high school. This will be his 9th summer at camp and his 1st on staff after completing the LIT program last year. As a camper Will spent most of his time windsurfing or at landsports. Outside of camp, Will loves to play hockey, basketball, and baseball. Will has also been refereeing minor hockey for 5 years and has coached hockey and flag football teams. At school Will is a student leader who leads school trips and tours for prospective students. He is also involved in his school’s Model United Nations club. We are sure Will is going to be a great counsellor and can’t wait to have him on the team this summer!
Hannah lives and studies in Toronto. This will be Hannah’s 9th year at Camp Arowhon and her 1st year as a counsellor after completing the LIT program last summer. Outside of camp Hannah has spent the past two years working at her synagogue, teaching weekly programs to young children. At school she is on the field hockey, wrestling and soccer teams as well as being involved in drama productions. Hannah is a caring, responsible and thoughtful person who loves spending time with children. We are delighted to have her on staff this summer!
Tyler is from Detroit, Michigan and this will be his 8th summer at camp. In school, he was the captain of the junior varsity tennis team and now plays varsity tennis as well as golf. He enjoys ski instructing, playing golf, as well as watching hockey. He works weekly at his local club teaching kids how to play tennis and on the weekends he teaches skiing to kids. Tyler has been a camper since the age of 9, when Daniel Levin and himself became 2 of the 1st campers from Detroit in several years. Fun fact: previously camp used to have a bus from Detroit! Tyler helps out with the peer corps movement and is a member of the National Honors Society. One interesting fact about Tyler is that he is working towards getting his pilot’s license.
Hailing from Ithaca, NY, Theo is excited to be returning for his 9th year at Camp Arowhon. Before joining our staff team, Theo spend 7 years as a camper and completed the LIT program last summer. Outside of camp, Theo plays soccer for his school team, which is ranked 5th in the United States. As a Link Leader at his high school, Theo is a role model to his peers and works to help younger students adapt to the high school environment. Theo is also committed to community service, and after the ebola outbreak in Africa, he helped raise money for Doctors Without Borders. Theo loves to stay active and have fun, which is why we know he’ll make an incredible counsellor!
Syd is from Toronto and is excited to be returning for her 9th summer at Arowhon after completing our LIT program last summer. During the year Syd is a teacher’s assistant at the Front and Centre Dance Academy where she enjoys taking classes herself. She is also a choreographer for her school’s annual dance/fashion show, plays on several sports teams, and is a member of the athletic council and DECA teams. Every week in the winter Syd volunteers for Out of the Cold, a program that provides the homeless community of Toronto with food, shelter and clothing during the cold winter months. Syd is looking forward to spending another amazing summer at camp and can’t wait to see everyone and make many new friends!
Sophie is back for her 8th summer at Arowhon! She lives in New York City and studies at Princeton University. Sophie was a camper at Arowhon for several years, and completed the LIT program in 2014. Outside of school Sophie does lots of work in politics, and founded the political magazine at her high school. She is so excited to return to Arowhon after traveling around Southeast Asia last summer.
Randi completed the LIT program at Camp Arowhon last year after spending 8 great summers as a camper. Coming back to camp this year as a counsellor means Randi will be celebrating her 10th summer at Arowhon! During the year she is a works at Snowhawks teaching kids to ski and snowboard. At school, Randi is co-captain of the cheerleading team and plays on the basketball and volleyball teams. When she’s not pursuing athletics, she works with the girl’s connections club at her school helping girls tackle self-esteem issues and providing a positive environment for them to become who they are without the fear of judgement – exactly what she wants to create at camp!
Rae is thrilled to be back at camp for her 11th summer. After taking last summer off to travel and do community service, Rae is extremely excited to be a counsellor this year. Back home in Toronto, Rae leads a community service program at her school and is a peer mentor for tutoring younger students. Throughout her camp experience, Rae has had over 20 counsellors that have all been amazing role models. Inspired by these previous leaders, Rae is excited to go back to camp in hopes of giving her campers an amazing and unforgettable summer.
Rachel is form Toronto and was a camper at Arowhon for 8 years and an LIT last July. She keeps busy after school at her job teaching young children swimming lessons and swimming herself! She is head of finances on her school’s social committee, and also volunteers at MukiBaum foundation, helping children with mental and physical disabilities. Rachel loves camp and is a caring and friendly person, who is very excited for her 1st year as a counsellor at Camp Arowhon.
Noa is from Toronto and can’t wait to finally be joining the staff team after 9 incredible summers as a camper and then an LIT. Noa’s favorite activities at camp include tennis, windsurfing and landsports. Outside of camp, Noa plays hockey, baseball, tennis, and skis. He is a certified ski instructor, hockey referee, and is the head of CHAT’s Music Appreciation Club. Noa is also a member of Model United Nations and volunteers at Out of the Cold and at the Arowhon in Action events. Noa is very excited to return to camp and Algonquin this summer and hopes to make everyone enjoy camp as much as he does.
Matthew Shade Silver
Matthew, a native of Toronto, is returning to Camp Arowhon for his 5th summer after graduating from our LIT program. At school he is a mentor to younger students and a member of the volleyball and basketball teams. This year he had the opportunity to visit India and work with children at the Global Pathways School. He has been presented with multiple awards including community service, global citizen, sportsmanship, science, and the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. During the winter months, Matthew can be found on the slopes teaching kids to ski. He is proud to have initiated a charity called “Bike 4 Kids” that has collected over 200 bikes that have been refurbished and distributed to underprivileged children in Toronto. “Shady” is proud to be a part of the Arowhon family and looks forward to giving back by providing a positive contribution to each camper’s summer experience.
Luca attends school in Toronto and will be returning for his 6th summer at Arowhon after completing the LIT program last summer. Luca loves being on Teepee Lake and as a camper spent as much time as possible in a sail boat . Outside of camp, Luca plays baseball, hockey, and is a member of the school ski team. He has also volunteered at Brown School to referee an after-school ball hockey program, serves as a campaigner for the Heart and Stroke Foundation in his neighborhood, and is an active member of Northern’s Second Harvest committee. Before camp, Luca is working at Sporting Life selling sports gear. In his spare time, Luca likes to draw and is a talented cartoonist. Luca is looking forward to working with campers to make this summer unforgettable.
Louise is from Toronto and is excited to be returning on staff for her 9th summer at Arowhon after completing the LIT program last summer. At school, Louise plays rugby, swims, and participates in her school’s model United Nations club. She is also a member of her school’s Buddies group, a program that helps integrate grade nines into high school life. Through Buddies, Louise has lead sessions on stress and homework management and been a counsellor on the school camping trip. Outside of school, Louise volunteers with Out of the Cold and Right to Play. She is so excited to meet her new campers and help make their summer’s the best yet!
Leah is from Buffalo, New York and is excited to celebrate her 10th summer at Arowhon! During the year, Leah is involved in her school’s chorus, acapella group, varsity soccer team, school yearbook, and Shakespeare program. Last year Leah had the opportunity to represent Western New York in the National Shakespeare Competition in New York City! She volunteers with a tutoring program for refugee children in Buffalo, as well as with her Jewish youth group, where she serves as president of the Buffalo chapter, and on the International Board for Israel Affairs. Leah is a hardworking, kind and energetic girl, and we are so excited to have her join our staff team this year!
Laura is from Hockessin, Delaware. She attends American University in Washington, D.C., where she is studying international studies and environmental science. This is Laura’s 1st year at Arowhon and she could not be more excited to join the team! At school she is on the tennis team, a part of the outdoors club, and volunteers at a homeless shelter that teaches men and women how to apply and interview for jobs. Outside of school, Laura babysits, teaches tennis lessons, travels (most recently to Iceland), and spends a lot of her free time outdoors. She is so excited for life at Arowhon!
Katharine (KK) McCallum
Katharine is from London, UK and this will be her 9th summer at Arowhon where she was a camper for 7 years before completing our LIT program. Her camp resume includes achieving her 1st class award in horseback riding as well as being a Colour War captain and going to Brent and back. Outside of camp, she loves sports, music and travelling as well as debating. Katharine is on her school’s field hockey, netball and racquets teams and is also a member of the Jazz band and student council. Also, during the school week she volunteers at an elementary school twice a week to teach Latin. She can’t wait to come back to camp for another amazing summer!
Jack lives in Toronto and will be returning for his 9th summer at camp. This will be his 1st year on staff after finishing up the LIT program last year. Jack is a member of his school’s hockey, golf, and flag football teams. Outside of school, Jack plays competitive hockey and is also an avid fan of both basketball and football. You may remember Jack from when he helped run our Arowhon in action skating event last year. Jack is incredibly caring, spirited, and easy going. We are thrilled to have him join our staff this summer.
After completing the LIT program last year J.J. is very excited to be coming back to camp for his 9th summer and 1st year on staff! J.J. is from Toronto. Over the years outside of camp, J.J. has participated in his school show choir, musical, and volunteers at the annual Parkinson’s Superwalk. J.J. is incredibly excited to spend another summer at his favourite place in the world.
This summer will be Ira’s 1st year on staff after an incredible 8 years as a camper and then going on to comple the LIT program. During the year he works at Forest Hill arena as a hockey referee. As a hockey player himself, he has won many titles. As well as hockey, basketball and rugby are some of his favorite school sports to play. He loves participating in charity walks like the Hodgkin’s Lymphoma event in hopes of raising money and spreading awareness of the disease. We are lucky to have Ira on our staff this summer!
Daniel can’t wait to be a counsellor at Camp Arowhon – or as he calls it “the greatest place on earth” – this summer. A student in West Bloomfield, Michigan, he tries to be as active as possible in the school community. He plays football (American), basketball, and lacrosse, while also serving as the class president and the secretary for the school’s science and engineering club. Daniel is planning to pursue a biology degree, and then attend medical school to become a physician. This summer will be Daniel’s 8th at Camp, and after participating in the LIT program last year, we are overjoyed to welcome him as a 2016 staff member. Daniel loves all aspects of camp life, whether on trip or in camp, he is always having a great time. He is a truly caring, hard-working, and fun person, who consistently has a positive impact on everyone who is around him.
Daniel Griff is a born and raised Torontonian. He was an LIT at Arowhon in the summer of 2014 spent last summer in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands on a community service trip. He is looking forward to getting back to camp, being able to be with such a close wonderful group of people and breathe in the fresh air. He was a camper at Camp Winnebagoe for 8 years before moving to Arowhon to become an LIT and he can’t wait to put the skills he learned to use as a counsellor. He is very involved in his community at home. He is the leader of an initiative at his school that organizes a clubs program at Lord Dufferin Public School, tutoring the kids in math and running fun activities. He serves as the umpire captain of the North Toronto Baseball Association and has achieved both his Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Arowhon is excited to have him back with us this season!
Brooke is a student in Toronto and decided to apply for a job at Arowhon after hearing her friends at school talking about what a great place it was. As soon as we met her we knew she’d be a great fit! Brooke is sporty, down-to-earth, and and passionate about kids and the outdoors. During the year she works as a competitive swim coach working with kids ages 9-12 and is a youth ski instructor. At school, Brooke keeps herself busy as a member of the field hockey, swimming, and softball teams. She is also on her school’s student council. She can’t wait to find out what all the Arowhon hype is about and share her love of adventure with everyone there.
Bevvy is a student in Toronto and is excited to be returning for her 4th summer at Arowhon after completing the LIT program last year. Bevvy’s always enjoyed every activity as a camper, but especially loves being in the water. In her spare time, she is a competitive swimmer and is on the athletic council at her school. She has also been an active volunteer for the charity Jacob’s Ladder and with a school program called Project Give Back. Bevvy is very excited to go back to camp and can’t wait to be at her home away from home.
Benn is from Toronto and can’t wait to receive his 10 year jacket marking his decade-long commitment to Arowhon this summer! During the year, Benn works at a restaurant and volunteers with the Hockey Heroes program teaching disadvantaged youth how to play hockey and at an after school program with the Miles Nadal JCC. During his time at camp he had many fun experiences, with highlights being archery, landsports and completing both Brent and Whitney trips. He was so positively influenced by his counsellors growing up and wishes to do the same for future campers. He loves sports and is on the athletic committee at his school. He plays hockey, rugby, basketball, and skis whenever he gets a chance. He also participates in the peer mentoring program at his school. He can’t wait for another active summer in Algonquin Park!
Ari comes to us from Montreal. This will be her 8th summer at Arowhon and her 1st year on staff after having completed the LIT program last summer. During the school year, Ari coaches a girls’ hockey development program in the winter and a girls’ soccer team in the spring. She also enjoys playing hockey and soccer on her own teams. Ari loves Arowhon and is can’t wait to get back there and give her campers their best summer yet!
Anthony spends his years in Toronto but can’t wait to get back to the home of his heart in Algonquin Park. It will be his 9th summer at Arowhon and 1st on staff after having completed the LIT program last summer. Anthony’s hobbies include graphic design, film making, photography and playing various sports. Anthony loves camp and as a camper could usually be found on a windsurf board. He is very caring, helpful and spirited person and we are overjoyed to have him on of our 2016 staff team.
Anna Lisa Lowenstein
Anna Lisa is from Toronto. She completed the LIT program last summer and is extremely excited to be returning on staff for her 9th Arowhon summer. During her time away from camp, Anna Lisa mentors younger students as a peer supporter. She plays for her school hockey and soccer teams and is an active member of the debate club. Anna Lisa looks forward to making this summer the best yet for all of her campers at her favourite place in the world.
Andie is a student from Toronto. After spending 7 years as a camper, and then completing the LIT program last summer she is excited to be returning for her 1st year on staff! In the city, Andie is very active both within her school’s community and outside. She’s a member of her school’s athletic council, plays on many varsity sports teams and volunteers weekly at Baycrest geriatric center. Andie can’t wait to be back on Teepee Lake to make new memories and have her best summer yet!
Adam was born and raised in Toronto. This will be Adam’s 1st year on staff, and his 9th year at Arowhon, after completing the LIT program in 2014. Passionate about all things at camp, Adam can’t wait to return to Arowhon and give back to the place that made his past 8 summers so memorable. At school Adam is a member of the Buddy program which helps integrate grade 9 students into their 1st year of high school. Adam is also an executive member of his school’s Boys Athletic Association. Adam volunteers as a flag football coach and teaches swimming to children at a downtown community centre. In his free time Adam is a member of his school’s ultimate frisbee team, and is an avid downhill skier and mountain biker.
Emilie is a student from Pittsburgh and is beyond thrilled to be returning to Arowhon for her 7th summer at camp and her 2nd summer on staff. In addition to tutoring elementary school students and volunteering at a local nature reserve, Emilie works at a community television station and is a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. Emilie’s hobbies include playing field hockey, skiing, and traveling. Emilie is charismatic, adventurous, and compassionate, and is so excited to spend another summer in her favourite place with her favourite people.
Ariel is a student from Toronto and is looking forward to her 2nd summer as a counsellor. She loved each of her 9 years as an Arowhon camper and LIT thought it couldn’t get any better than that until she got to be a counsellor for the Inter Girls last summer! During the school year, Ariel plays on her school’s volleyball team, runs track and field, and was a mentor for grade 9 students. She also teaches skiing, volunteers at her local Out of the Cold shelter, and plays tennis. Ariel is passionate about camp, and can’t wait for another great summer with her campers!
Born and raised in Toronto, Shiv is thrilled to be returning for another summer at Arowhon – his 12th! He’s worked with kids of all ages, from counselling 6 year olds at Bayview Glen Day Camp, to being a counsellor for Senior Boys at Arowhon last summer. He is looking forward to having a fantastic time with all of his campers, and making it a summer they will never forget. We are ecstatic that Shiv and his outgoing personality will be rejoining us this summer!
Jonathan is originally from Atlanta, Georgia, though now he is a happy resident of Toronto. This will be his 9th summer at Arowhon, and his 2nd year on staff. In the city, he runs cross-country and plays varsity rugby. Also, Jonathan plays trombone in multiple bands, and he went to the National jazz competition with his grade 12 jazz band, after receiving silver at provincials. He is a RSGC outdoor education leader, and was a counsellor for students in younger grades on a few trips in the last 2 years. Finally, he was communications and arts prefect at RSGC, for the 2015/16 school year. Jonathan studies economics at U of T (at Trinity College).
Lewie is a student from Toronto. This is will be Lewie’s 2nd year on staff and his 10th at Arowhon!. As a camper, you would often find Lewie excelling at his 2 favourite activities: A&C and canoeing, where he got his 2nd class award. Outside of camp Lewie is an active member of his school’s Jewish Student Union and Me to We Clubs. He enjoys volunteering at his synagogue as well as the Out of the Cold and Ve’ahavta programs for Toronto’s homeless. Lewie loves Camp Arowhon, his 2nd home, and cannot wait to share yet another incredible summer at camp with his campers!
Evan is a student from Toronto and will be spending his 11th year at camp this summer. He is excited to be returning to camp for his 2nd summer as a counsellor. As a camper Evan enjoyed spending time at the sail dock and on the tennis courts. Outside of camp Evan is a ski coach at Alpine Ski Club and enjoys competing in many sports such as hockey, soccer and running. At school Evan is a part of business council and is a student mentor. Evan considers camp his 2nd home and looks forward to an incredible summer with his campers!
Danielle is a student from Toronto who has been a camper at Arowhon for a total of 10 summers, this being her 2nd on staff! Danielle is passionate about international volunteer work and has traveled to Africa and India to teach at various schools. She also participates in all of her school’s plays including this year’s production of “Footloose”. Arowhon is happy to welcome her back for another amazing summer!
Anna calls the east coast of Canada her home, coming from Halifax, Nova Scotia where she studies management and women’s studies at Dalhousie University. She is a member of Dalhousie’s model UN team and a representative on the Women in Leadership Society, giving women in the community a voice and platform to create equal opportunity. In her spare time, she enjoys running, going on hikes, and is on a constant search for the perfect burger and milkshake combo. Last summer was Anna’s 1st time being a camp counsellor and she loved it so much she’s coming back for another amazing summer. She can’t wait to get back to working at the barn and going on trip in Algonquin Park with her campers!
Stef is a student fro Toronto and this will be her 2nd year on staff at Arowhon! She has excelled in leading children not only at Arowhon, but at other camps including YMCA Camp Pine Crest, Kitchikewana, Childrens Arts Theatre School and Camp University of Toronto. She also did a co-op program at Beverley Street Public School where she worked with children with developmental disabilities. She is instructing swimming to children at Jack of Sports, where she continues to mentor and support kids. Stef enjoys the outdoors and all summer activities and is a certified lifeguard. She is an enthusiastic, fun, and genuinely caring leader who is sure to have a positive impact on campers this summer at camp Arowhon, just as she did last year! Stef was on the honor roll for all 4 years in high school and was an executive leader of the Environmental Alliance club. This summer she will continue to guide children in social and physical skills while incorporating Arowhon’s principles of caring, respect, and learning.
Helena is from Toronto and will be celebrating her 9th summer with us at Arowhon. After 7 great years as a camper and LIT, and a very wonderful summer last year as a 1st year counsellor working with the Junior Girls, and an assistant on FAD (fitness, aerobics, and dance), Helena is thrilled to be coming back. Helena studies Health Science at Queen’s University. Outside of school, Helena spends her time volunteering at Drama Ways, a program for adults and kids with developmental disorders. Helena is an extremely enthusiastic, caring, and dedicated counsellor. She is delighted to be returning to Tepee Lake for another amazing summer!
Though from Toronto, Jeremy spends his time studying engineering at Queen’s University. At school, Jeremy likes to stay active by playing inner tube water polo, dodge ball and basketball. This summer will be his 3rd on staff and his 7th at Camp Arowhon. For the past 2 years Jeremy has had a great experience in the Inter Boys section and on the canoe docks. Jeremy is thrilled to be coming back for another action packed time at camp.
From Toronto, Ben is studying science at Queen’s University. This will be his 3rd summer on staff and 11th summer at camp. When not with us at camp, Ben has works as a hockey referee and has coached children ages 7-11 in flag football. He also volunteered at Out of the Cold throughout his high school years. In his spare time, Ben enjoys playing hockey, basketball, and soccer. He is looking forward to spending another summer at Camp Arowhon fulfilling his true calling.
Myles is from Toronto and is a student at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. This will be Myles’ 3rd year of staff and 10th year at Camp Arowhon. In his spare time, Myles plays intramural basketball and volleyball and also gets involved through house council as he is the community outreach representative for his residence. Myles is super excited to come back to camp and cannot wait for another fun-filled summer!
This is Nikki’s 9th year at camp and 2nd year as a counsellor. She loved last summer and had such a great time working with the Junior Girls section! During the year Nikki volunteers at a horse and dog rescue farm, and at school plays on the tennis and volleyball teams! Nikki is super excited to be back at camp and to have the best summer yet!
