First Campfire!

It was another rainy day in Algonquin Park but that didn’t stop Arowhon campers from doing activities and having a great time! Campfire cooking moved into Versailles and made delicious tacos (including corn tortillas from scratch!). We also had a special guest (Max’s partner Kash) teaching jewelry making – a big hit with the Inter and Senior Girls. Campers reported that the water feels warmer than ever when it’s raining, and everyone stayed cozy with the 2 delicious homemade soups at lunch (today was chicken rice and a creamy roasted red pepper). The rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the Point Smalls who left on trip today – still basking in the glow of their Buck Lake success.

The day was topped off with the first campfire of the summer hosted entirely in song by our talented Program Directors. The Inter Girls led the camp in a great new song about buffalos big and small and we sang some of our old favourites like “No Bananas in the Sky” and “Penguins Unite” as well. The finale was an emotional speech from Program Director Newman who received his 15 year canoe bookshelf and spoke about how Arowhon has impacted him over the years (we’re so glad he’s decided to pursue a career in teaching so he can hopefully come back for 15 more!). Everyone linked arms for “Camp Arowhon We Always Will Remember” and the chorus of “friends friends friends, we will always be” has never rung more true.

A cabin of Junior Boys won cleanest cabin in camp and were treated to and ice cream sundae party in the kitchen tonight, and tomorrow is our first Sunday sleep-in – much needed after a fun-filled first week of camp! Can’t wait for the smoked salmon, chocolate croissants, and eggs to order!
