The weather gods smiled again today

It rained last night and today dawned sunny and super warm again. We’re grateful for the rain at night because the Algonquin Park forest needs it. And we need not to have a fire ban in the Park, because canoe trips need campfires…. And soon it will be Colour War, and what would the Colour War Marathon be without the final fire? But we do love the sunshine in the daytime.

We all know that camp runs just fine when it’s cool and even when the “silver sunshine” (camp terminology for rain) visits us for days on end. That’s when our staff make the sunshine. But this summer has been hot and sunny pretty much every day – which elevates everyone’s mood.

Like today: we started with Sunday sleep-in and brunch buffet – bagels, cream cheese, smoked salmon, chocolate croissants, fruit platters and eggs to order (any style) in the kitchen. Most people ate outside because it was such a lovely morning.

Then we did distance swims. Campers swam 1/4, 1/2 and 1 mile. The way we do that is across the lake, with a staff canoe canoe paddling beside every camper to be their lifeguard. We were so proud of the almost 50 kids who swam…. And that was all before 11:30 am!

Since then it’s been a regular activity day, full of fun and learning.
