To Green Leach and Beyond!

It’s finally feeling like summer in Algonquin Park with the sun shining bright and the lake warming up. Today was jam-packed full of activities with not 4 but 5 awesome periods. Evening activity was the weekly 5th period where campers sign up to go to activities where they play around just for fun. It was great to see the lake full of boats, hearing laughter echoing over the water as the sun set behind Tepee Lake.

But the highlight of today was undeniably the 2017 Green Leach Regatta – a much- anticipated annual race where camper-staff teams can paddle in any craft EXCEPT a regular canoe and the fastest one to make it around Green Leach Island wins. This year there were a lot of creative watercraft, ranging from surf board rafts to tripping barrels to a bunch of inflated dry sacs, but the winning vessel (in fact the only one to successfully circumnavigate the island) was Assistant Director Mara and Senior Girl Sydney dressed in tutus and fairy wings and paddling a 7 foot long inflatable rainbow unicorn named Skittles!

The smell of woodsmoke is in the air tonight as a bunch of cabins roast marshmallows around campfires while doing special outdoor cabin circles. This is the stuff that summer dreams are made of!
