Day 2 of Colour War
Was great… Am still with campers celebrating, will write more tomorrow.
ContinueWonderland is here
Colour War is super fun… The Red Queen, in full royal regalia, interrupts events with her drama, her king by her side with cloak and sceptre. Events today went from speed chess to sail and surf races and swim meet, and we’re just about to start team fight songs, after which it’s the annual Counsellor […]
ContinueLet it rain, let it pour, all we want is Colour War!
Just before dinner, the 14 day canoe trip got back to camp. The whole camp turned out to the lakeshore to welcome the triumphant Senior trippers home from their whitewater adventure. Evening activity tonight was Arowhon-a-Palooza, a fabulous show of singing and dancing. The kids sang and danced so well and the audience went wild. […]
ContinueLong trips came back
from the French River and the campers on those trips were carried into dinner on their staff’s shoulders, to wild cheers. Also a moving speech at dinner about an Inter Girl who got her 2nd class award in climbing. And after dinner we all went outside to watch the same skit we’ve been doing for […]
ContinueHot and sunny, it’s Mini Camp Day
33 young children (ages 5 to 9) just arrived here and started their one day “taste of camp” Mini Camp day… This morning the mist was so thick on the lake that the canoeists on the water were like wraiths slipping through the silvery mist. Last night was campfire, with silly songs and six soulful […]

I got up as usual at 6:30 this morning, to the same sounds I hear every morning – Senior Boys and Girls training for Brent and Whitney marathon canoe trips. Paddling and portaging (at a jog) circuits, cheering each other on, communicating all the while – learning to be great team players. …At breakfast today […]
ContinueSo many wonderful happenings today
‘Twas another hot sunny day at camp… with great wind. At Rest Hour we had the first of three heats to qualify for the Wayne Peck Sailing Regatta. My camper partner sailed like a champ (I only crewed) and we won our heat. Leon went down to defeat in his heat just before dinner, apparently […]
ContinueIt just keeps getting better
Hot and sunny again today. There was a windsurfing race at Rest Hour (A Junior Boy got honourable mention). Lots of tie dying going on at Arts & Crafts. Auditions for Junior Senior play. Many many camper/staff crews signed up for the Wayne Peck Sailing Regatta, so the first of several heats will be tomorrow. […]
ContinueHot and sunny here today…
11 campers signed up for the challenge and did the two-mile swim today. Arowhon campers have been doing this swim since 1934. They paddle out the two miles to the Joe Lake Dam. Then each camper gets into the water and swims back to camp, accompanied by a canoe paddled by two staff as their […]
ContinueWhat a difference the heat makes
At Rest Hour it seemed every camper in camp was in the water. There were kids playing on Jungle Joe, jumping on both water tramps, going down the water slide, playing on the pirate swing (out over the water) and swimming at every dock. How grateful we are that it finally warmed up! Could be […]
