A showcase of the Arowhon Culture

Once again, today was the perfect show case of what makes Arowhon a special place. To update everyone, on the first full day of each session we have a lot of nitty gritty stuff to take care of. Campers must go to the med lodge and make sure they are healthy, they have to do their swim tests, get checked for lice, take a cabin photo as well as visit every activity in camp to learn a bit about it and have some fun! I know that sounds like a lot, and it is. Its amazing we can fit it all in. The real amazing part to it though is the positivity with which we get through all this.

Although lots of it is enjoyable, it isn’t all fun, some of it is downright challenging. Swimming 4 laps in a lake for the first time is tough stuff. It’s tough stuff that we get through. Its tough stuff that we support each other through. Waiting to get your hair checked for lice is mundane, but we don’t see groups sitting around idle, we see campers at play all over camp. Counsellors keeping their cabins up, active, and engaged. Going to every activity in camp to learn a bit about it might be repetitive to some who have been here for years, but we see those returning campers showing the new folks the way. Helping to teach them what they need to bring to stay happy and safe all over camp. These are the special things about Arowhon, these are the things that keep people coming back, these are the things that make it magical.
