As I walked out of my cabin at 7:45 this morning on my way to breakfast I saw about a dozen Inter Boys standing in a semi-circle in front of my cabin. They called me over and showed me what they were looking at: a large snapping turtle laying its eggs.

The eggs were neat to see but the boys’ response to the phenomenon was what really touched me. So often my interactions with Inter Boys are to tell them to put on proper shoes if they are going to play tennis or to be quiet during announcements, but today instead of nagging we shared a moment of awe at the awesomeness of nature. It was one of those moments where I realized how important it is to unplug at camp, and how even though they give us push back about all of our rules, knowing that we are doing the right thing can not only make us feel good about ourselves but also know that we are helping them experience a part of the world they never would at home.
