Arowhon Legends

It was a perfect day for former sailing instructor Morrie Black (whom, according to Joanne, gave her her thirds “when dinosaurs walked the earth”) and his friends to pay a visit to their old Tepee Lake stomping grounds. Him and his cabin mates Larry Smith, Norman Biback, Donny Aaron, and Steve Coden joined us for lunch (gourmet grilled cheese – no Kraft slices in our kitchen!) and then to take in the excitement of the biggest race of the summer: the Wayne Peck sailing regatta. Boats included camper and staff combos (at least half the legs have to be skippered by the camper). There were 9 boats in the race – the top 3 from each qualifier in the past few days – including directors Joanne and Leon racing against each other. We’d like to say it was an exciting finish, but this year Leon and his Senior Girl crew won by a landslide.

It was a sweet day for the Senior Girls, as after leading a flashmob dance party in the Main Lodge at dinner, they snuck into Max’s cabin and made chocolate cupcakes which they graciously left for him as a host gift. We welcomed some Inter Girl trips back this afternoon and they paddled in with huge smiles on their faces and proud tales of surviving yesterday’s torrential rain storm – another testament to the resiliency of Arowhon folks. In boys camp tuck and tetherball were the talks of the town and the tennis tournament is well underway. We’ve definitely hit our second session groove and now we’re savouring every moment because we know how much time flies when we’re having fun.
