They say the two happiest days in a camp director’s life are the day the campers arrive and the day the campers leave. Truer words were never spoken. I am flooded with a relief so intense I could dance for joy from the rooftops. I LOVE my job. I adore 99% of what I do here at camp every day, and I revel in how well suited I am for the craziness and intensity and interpersonal excitement of camp…
And I also live in terror all summer.
The sacred trust that parents place in me – to keep their children safe – is an almost overwhelming responsibility. Nobody could wear that trust lightly. And I do not. Thus the relief and joy of sending everyone home safe.
And now I shall take a long nap…. For tomorrow we begin to plan summer 2016. Yes, that soon!
