Singing in the Rain

We had quite the deluge during 5th period today (much needed after a long dry spell to prevent a fire ban) and I loved seeing how our community reacted to it. Instead of running inside, campers and staff alike found the silver lining in the silver sunshine. I saw a hoard of Inter Girls standing under the water streaming off the Main Lodge roof belting “Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls” at the top of their lungs. I saw 10 people creatively using a tarp to create the world’s largest communal umbrella. I saw all the girls at swimming draw Crayola beards and moustaches on each other and take advantage of the chaos to sneak into the Point. I overheard a bunch of boys raving about how “that was the best sailing period ever!”I heard chants all over camp of “beach day every day”and camper snacks tonight turned into a giant bathing-suit dance party with campers of all ages rocking out and singing at the top of their lungs.

This evening inspired me to add my own ending onto a favourite quote of mine: “You can be cold, wet, and miserable, or you can just be cold and wet” because now I know that the best option is to be cold, wet, and happy! So thank you Arowhon campers for showing us how to make the sweetest lemonade out of a situation many would cringe at.
