While at Arowhon we value skill-building and teamwork over competition, we’re still proud to announce that we cleaned up at the Intercamp competition on both land and lake!
With a week of programming under their belts, instructors decided to take it to the next level today, challenging campers to set records for the most number of people who could successfully paddle a SUP together (5), most number of frogs caught in a period (21), fastest sailboat rig (34 seconds), and biggest splash at swimming (an Owl).
The highlight of the day was definitely our classic Friday night singalong (tonight featuring “Piano Man,” “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” and “Lean on Me.”), followed by our second (and equally epic) campfire. It was amazing to see so many campers coming out of their shell and performing, from a Salamander solo of Bob Dylan’s “The Weight,” to a Dragonfly duet of “Defying Gravity” from Wicked, to a Moose/Bear collab of Coldplay’s “Yellow,” the crowd was roaring with pride for their friends.
The campfire culminated with a ceremony celebrating the loyalty our campers and presenting mini paddles to those celebrating their 5th summer at camp…. only another 5 to go till their 10 year jackets!
And last but not least, a shoutout to Cabin 22 for being the cleanest cabin in camp all week, earning them an ice cream party in the staff kitchen after the campfire!
