After another beautiful day of activities the skies opened up this evening, providing sweaty campers and staff a refreshing shower at snacks.
But instead of heading inside, in true Arowhon fashion our community gathered organically in a circle in front of the Main Lodge and started singing the Umbrella song at the top of their lungs. This spontaneous sing-a-long made its way through all the camp favourites, and half an hour later there is still a group of more than 50 kids with their arms around each other belting Noah Khan, getting louder with each thunder clap. What incredible energy, our campers have, and a perfect example of how anything can be made into an adventure with the right attitude.
Camp is in full swing now, and our volleyball, tennis, and pickleball tournaments have started and teams are training up in their spare time. The ice cream shop has been booming with business from all the awards being achieved, and the first round of trips (Salamanders) returned today triumphant from their wilderness adventures.
Everywhere I look campers and staff are finding fun in the most mundane moments, challenging themselves to try new things, and cheering each other on.
We’ve also been really enjoying visits from alumni and their families, hearing tales of Arowhon history and getting to show off the community we are today.
A special moment today was when a 3 year old daughter of a visiting alumni put the plate up in the Main Lodge all by herself and 500 people fell silent. The respect she was given was as heartwarming as the look of awe on her face at the results of her actions .
