A typical camp trajectory starts with a Mini Camp weekend for kids coming out of grade 1 (give or take a year).Kids coming out of grades 1-3 who can swim and do sleepovers with friends and relatives are usually developmentally ready for a 2 week session.Once in grade 3 or 4, most kids start staying a full month, and by the time they are 12 or 13 they are usually pushing to stay even longer.
Kids up to age 13 who are new to camp can ease into camp with a 2 week stay during our second session.

Some parents worry that even 2 weeks is a long time for a first timer. Years of experience have shown us that homesickness rarely, if ever, gets worse as time at camp goes on. The longer they stay at camp, the more comfortable kids feel, and the days tend to fly by when they have over 20 activities to choose from, special events to look forward to, and a camp family that makes you feel right at home.

What happens in each week of camp?

Arowhon's goals are to build connection, independence, and skill-building. The first week of camp is spent settling in, learning the ropes, and making friends. Once kids feel at home at camp, friendships begin to deepen, passions emerge, and goals are set.

Weeks 3 and beyond are where kids really get into the flow, develop skills that stick, and gain a deep sense of belonging and confidence.

Mini Camp is a weekend experience designed for first-time campers aged 6-9 who are ready for a taste of independence but not quite ready for a long stay. Mini campers will get to try a wide range of Arowhon’s activities with close, loving support from experienced staff. They sleep in cabins, eat in the dining hall, paddle on Tepee Lake, and end each day with Cabin Circle. It’s just the right amount of time to fall in love with camp and come home a little taller.
