It was another beautiful, breezy day in Algonquin Park, and the lake was was full of activity from dawn to dusk. Our 2 and 6 week campers made the most of their last day of activities, raking in a record number of awards (and ice cream vouchers). Days like today make it easy to see how far our campers have come this summer. Juniors who were once unsure in a canoe are now paddling independently. Sailors are confidently tacking their way up wind across the lake, and kayakers are mastering their rolls and tricks.
After dinner, everyone was called outside for a surprise skit introducing the colourful residents of Dogpatch. Daisy Mae, Li’l Abner, and Evil Eye Fleagle appeared to tell us about the famous Kickapoo Joy Juice, a mysterious drink said to make anyone who tastes it fall in love. Evil Eye was determined to steal the secret recipe, while the rest of the group invited us to join them for a hillbilly hoedown at Rustic Lounge.
Before heading up to the dance, we had the traditional Sadie Hawkins chase, where south camp campers were given a two-minute head start before north camp raced after them in the traditional Sadie Hawkins chase. When campers caught someobody they could choose between a variety of creative marriage and friendship vow booths, ranging from Vegas Elvis to K-Pop to Taylor Swift. Once they were partnered up, campers took hayrides around camp and enjoyed freshly roasted corn before heading into an epic dance party. The Magen Boys kept the music going as campers and staff packed the dance floor, singing along, dancing in groups, and showing off their moves.
What a high note to end on for our 2 and 6 week campers!
