Although we miss our 2 and 6 week friends already, the smaller camp is proving to be special in its own way.
With fewer campers to look after, staff have been able to do extra special stuff with their campers. My favourite thing I saw today was a cabin of Owls who picked an entire litre bottle full of wild blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries and cooked them into a pie in my cabin and came back to eat it for snack tonight (they even shared a delicious slice with me). The Grasshoppers and Dragonflies have merged into the “Bugs” section and are competing to earn “bug bucks” by mastering camp skills. The entire Curve took their evening snack and hot chocolate across the lake to do cabin circle on Gibraltar.
We had some truly epic evening activities tonight, with a Juniors’ Counsellor Hunt (campers have to search for hidden staff and the more senior someone is, the more points they are worth), Sinters Amazing Race around camp, and Moose night sailing (which just turned into them pirating each other’s boats and having a great time.
We’re so excited to welcome our 75 Mini Campers tomorrow morning and to show them a taste of Arowhon magic for the weekend. Whether rain or shine, it’s always a beautiful day in Algonquin Park, and one of the best things about Arowhon campers that we don’t get deterred by a little silver sunshine – we embrace it and play outside even harder, and then warm up with hocho in Mara and Max’s cabins. .
