It was one of the silliest Sundays yet here at Camp Arowhon!
We started the day in the best way possible: a well-earned sleep-in followed by a delectable brunch featuring savoury smoked salmon, crispy chocolate-filled croissants, and eggs made to order.
From there, Silly Sunday unfolded in true organized chaos as instructors brought their wildest ideas to life across camp. The waterfront was buzzing with a full-lake game of Counsellor Hunt aboard sailboats, Hungry Hippos played from kayaks, and a pirate-themed “Walk the Plank” at the swim dock.
Meanwhile, deep in the forest, an epic game of Capture the Flag broke out on the bog of all places. The music department took to the docks to write sea shanties, dancers climbed aboard Mega SUPs for acrobatic routines on the water, and the barn was transformed into something straight out of an old Western, complete with barrel racing and lasso lessons.
Could it get any sillier?
Oh… it could.
After dinner, I was treated to the Owls’ evening activity, where six of our male instructors were put to the ultimate test in a camp Drag Race. The girls had just twenty minutes to transform their instructor with hair, makeup, costumes, and choreography before sending them onto the stage for a lip-sync battle worthy of a Canada’s Got Talent.
The performances were fearless and the campers were howling with laughter. Even I nearly fell out of my chair.
Days like Silly Sunday are a reminder to embrace joy by being wonderfully ridiculous together, and making the kinds of memories that will be laughed about for years to come.
