We were just treated to the most spectacular Junior play I have seen in years!
From the chorus of tiny Juniors dressed in rags as orphans to the still small but mighty Jinters in the leading roles of Annie, Miss Hannigan, and Daddy Warbucks, they blew us away with their dramatic flair. It was inspiring how much energy they had but into making a flawless production and how they supported and rooted each other on. Equally heartwarming was the earsplitting cheering of the entire camp at the end of each scene.
Particularly touching was seeing some of the same kids I’ve been counselling through homesickness, friendship difficulties, and other challenges shine on the stage, showing that the hard moments can exist alongside the triumphant ones. I often worry that parents I talk to about struggles their kids are having only see that part of their kids’ experience, and I wish I could show them the times like these that make it all worth it.
Other highlights of today included a bit of a break in the heatwave, with relieving 25 degrees weather and a nice light breeze pushing sail boats and windsurfers across the lake, as well as the announcement of the camper-staff tennis tournament and the first sailing race of the summer.
We’re all looking forward to Sunday sleep-in and brunch tomorrow, and to see what the instructors have in store for us for Silly Sunday (where each activity runs with a goofy creative spin).
