We can’t believe it’s already time to say goodbye to our 2 week juniors tomorrow!
Where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday they got off the bus, timid and shy, and now they are performing in front of the whole camp, skippering sail boats, pulling up windsurf sails, riding horses through the woods, and shooting bullseyes.
But more than that, they are navigating around camp independently, taking responsibility for their belongings, resolving conflicts, looking out for others, and trying new things. It’s amazing how much growth can happen in just 2 weeks!
The day ended with a stunning torch paddle and 10 year jacket presentations including these inspiring words from a 17 year old counsellor:
To all of my boys, you’ve given me a whole new purpose at camp.
Watching each of you grow in your own unique way has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. Seeing you become more confident, make new friends, try new things, and slowly start to call this place home has reminded me why camp is so special in the first place.
You may never realize it, but you’ve taught me just as much as I’ve ever taught you. I hope I’ve had even half the impact on your camp experience that you’ve had on mine
Because the truth is, camp isn’t just a place.
It’s the people who turn strangers into best friends.
It’s the counsellors and instructors who believe in you before you believe in yourself.
It’s the moments that seem small at the time but somehow become the memories you carry forever.
