A Very Special Day Under the Sea

Campers were so excited to wake up with coloured bands on their wrists showing their team for the day. So much so that they ran down to breakfast half an hour early just to see who was on their team and get a head start on the cheering.

As much as we love practicing and growing at our regular programmed activities, sometimes a break is needed to change it up, encourage collaboration between campers in all sections, and participate in some friendly competition. The day consisted of super creative full camp games like Phobias – where staff were placed around camp with different “phobias” like being afraid of the sun or of touching the ground, and campers had work together to figure out how to get them back to the Main Lodge without triggering their fear. It was hilarious to see campers holding umbrellas over staff to protect them from the sun, or finding objects for them to step on so they wouldn’t have to touch the ground (a strategy they came up with after trying to carry them failed). Another great one was a version of Capture the Flag where there were many flags of different colours hidden all over camp and campers had to find theirs and get them back to their home bases without getting caught by Plankton.

After lunch, the highly anticipated marathon began; an intense full-camp relay race with over 70 activities! Campers raced on sailboats, kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards, ran in 3-legged and egg and spoon races, and portaged canoes at full speed across camp. It was tense down to the last second where all campers and staff gathered in front of the Main Lodge to watch the seniors figure out an intricate puzzle while everyone watched and cheered.

After dinner, it was time to bring our community back together after a day of intense competition, which we did with some soulful alma maters – original songs that the team’s seniors had written today and taught their entire teams.

At the end of the day it didn’t matter who won, but that everyone gave it their all, played fair, and had  great time (and of course recovered the Krabby Patty recipe)
