Go the Distance

It was an incredibly special Sunday. Not only did we wake up to delectable hollandaise-covered eggs and pastries stuffed with cream cheese and raspberry jam, but we also used these as fuel for the upcoming distance swims!

It was an extra special Sunday as the morning was filled with a two hour long super general where campers could go to whatever activities they wanted all morning. On the water, the incredible feat of distance swims commenced. The weather was perfect and we had the most swimmers in Arowhon history, with 95 campers taking the challenge of either the quarter mile, half mile, or full mile swim. One brave camper finished the mile swim in just under 16 minutes! Unbelievable!

In the afternoon, the Sunday Sillies took over. On land dance and yoga combined to run 80’s style aerobics, spandex outfits and all. On the water, the paddle sports took to settling their differences in style with epic canoe and kayak splash battles. Pottery made mini ceramics and hosted an Alice in Wonderland tea party with them.

At dinner, the first high class award recipient of the summer was carried into the Main Lodge on the music instructor’s shoulders, causing the camp to erupt in cheers of pride. The entire camp was on the edge of their seats during his seconds speech, and at least 100 people ran up for hugs of congratulations after, enveloping him in a mass of support.

At camp, every award is celebrated by the entire community because every accomplishment represents the values we all strive toward. We cheer just as loudly for someone else’s achievement as we would for our own. It is a reflection of a culture where campers encourage one another to learn, to grow, and to conquer challenges together.

We can’t wait to celebrate all of the achievements still to come.
