It was another perfect weather day in Algonquin Park: sunny but not too hot, a nice steady breeze, and skies so clear that the stars tonight are (literally) stellar!
The big event of today was our intercamp activity competition where Camp Tamakwa came to us to compete in windsurf and sailing races, style canoeing competitions, archery and sports tournaments, and even some cheerleading.
We were equally proud of our campers for their skill and sportsmanship, and not surprisingly we brought home the bacon in the majority of the events. Regardless of results, everyone was treated to ice cream afterwards.
And speaking of ice cream, we’ve had a lot of debate in our community lately about the idea of giving ice cream to everyone who gets awards in activities, Critics say the external incentive takes away from the real motivation for it. Advocates want to add a third flavour of ice cream and keep Tepee treats open all the time.
To settle the debate, we held a mock competition between Mara (who was fighting to uphold Arowhon’s values of growth and learning) and Max (who was vouching for ice cream for everyone in the Pontoon boat day. Turned out the skit was a ploy for the camp clowns to come in and introduce our upcoming Carnival Day which everyone is looking forward to tomorrow.
