Our last day of first session activities was full of fun and energy.
We are so proud of the campers who worked all month and have finally received their high class awards (and were carried into the dining hall today on the shoulders of instructors to deafening cheers), and we can’t wait to hear their recognition speeches at tomorrow’s closing banquet.
The real shining stars of today are the Bears campers, who had been preparing for weeks to host the camp for themed dinner party and production of their original play, Rustic Lounge. Everyone was excited to come to the ML to find out the theme of Cotillion and it didn’t disappoint: the Main Lodge had been transformed into Wonderland, and the Bears and their staff to Alice, the Cheshire Cat, the Queen of Hearts, and more. We feasted on steak, curly fries, and the juiciest chocolate covered strawberries, and gave thanks to the kitchen staff for filling our bellies with the most delicious camp food all month long.
After dinner, we headed up to the Rustic Lounge theatre for its namesake production, a satire of camp life performed by the Bears dressing up as and poking playful fun at camp staff. We were so impressed with how polished and witty it was, and were especially excited to show it off to some camper parent alumni who are visiting, who said it was even better than they remember it being!
Arowhon alumni Lorne Greene (of Bonanza TV fame), who coined the name “Rustic Lounge” describing the camp theatre (or lack thereof when he was head of drama in the 1930’s) would have been proud!
