Fabulous First Day!

Watching the first day of second session I was overcome with pride in the growth our staff have undergone in the last 4 weeks. We all know that the best way to learn is by doing, but it’s always a bit unnerving at the end of June staff training sending the novices into the field to care for the kids that camp directors are ultimately responsible for.
Yesterday and today I just sat back and watched in awe as they greeted their incoming campers confidence that belied their mere weeks of experience. We often talk about a day at camp being equivalent to a month anywhere else because we pack so much into each one; never has this been more true than with our staff’s development. The “kids” who came to us in June are now seasoned professionals.
I can’t be in the cabin of every struggling camper all the time, and the hardest part of my job is trusting anyone else to do that (because the stakes are so high), but tonight I rest easy because I know they are in the best hands possible.
