The first day of summer 2025 on Planet Arowhon could not have gone more smoothly.

Campers emerged from cars and buses into the welcoming arms of staff, who ushered them to their cabins like seasoned pros. From the ones who ran out squealing with joy to be back in their summer home, to the more trepidatious new campers, everyone ended up with a smile on their on their face and feeling part of the Arowhon family.

Walking around the Main Lodge at dinner I was overjoyed to feel the contagious energy and excitement, and reassured to see every camper engaged in conversation over their traditional first night dinner of spaghetti, garlic bread, and caesar salad (with the fudgiest of brownies for dessert).

After dinner campers met in their sections for their introductory evening activities (name games, learning sectional cheers, and for the Grasshoppers as sneaky tuck raid!), before returning to their cabins for the much-anticipated candy party and opening cabin circle, where they all shared their hopes for the summer.

The cool night air is full of contentment and connection, as counsellors and campers settle in together for their first night as a cabin family.

We’re anticipating some silver sunshine for Tour Day tomorrow, so I’ve ordered plenty of hot chocolate to treat the kids to after their swim tests.

Staff and campers alike are thrilled to be here, and the first night vibes are foreshadowing a summer of fun and growth for all.
