Sarah Recoskie – LIT Program Coordinator
Sarah grew up in Barry’s Bay, in the heart of the Madawaska Valley. She has worked in the camping and outdoor education field for many years, but this will be her 1st summer at Arowhon. She studied policing at Algonquin College in Ottawa, and has worked in northern communities as a police officer. She also worked as a camp director, outdoor educator, ski coach/instructor, and currently works with Alive Outdoors. Previous years and seasons at camp have proven to be some of her favorite, as there are lessons and life skills learned at camp that have impacted her in all walks of life. This summer she is looking forward to being a teacher, to learning, to being immersed in the beauty of Algonquin Park and to meeting a whole new camp family. Ultimately Sarah loves to play outside and loves to share that passion with whoever wants to play along.
Sam is very excited to be returning to camp for his 5th year on staff and for his 13th summer since beginning as a camper in 2004. Originally from Toronto, Sam has lived in Atlanta, London, and Montreal over the years. After two years of studying economics at McGill University, he turned his attention to outdoor education, volunteering, and journalism for the 2016/17 school year- in the western United States for a semester-long outdoor leadership course, and in Nepal working at an orphanage, and on a literacy technology initiative in the foothills of the Himalayas. Sam is incredibly excited to get to the shores of Teepee Lake and be a part of the magic of camp!
Eden is from Toronto and is finishing her 4th year at Queen’s University, where she studies Life Sciences and Art History. This will be Eden’s 13th summer at Arowhon and 5th summer on staff. Eden previously worked as a counsellor in the Senior Girls section for 3 years and then as the Senior Girls Section Head. Outside of camp, Eden volunteers in a psychology lab where she examines the effectiveness of a video game aimed to reduce anxiety in children and adolescents. Eden is also a Note Taker for Queen’s Accessibility Services, a member of the Life Sciences Student Council, a delegate in Queen’s Model Parliament, and plays intramural basketball. Eden loves to travel and has participated in study abroad programs in the Netherlands and New Zealand. While Eden loves to explore new places, for her there is no place that compares to Teepee Lake! After being away from camp last summer, Eden is SO excited to be returning for what will surely be another amazing summer.
Joey lives in Kingston where she studies engineering chemistry at Queen’s University. This will be Joey’s 12th summer at camp, and 5th on staff, where she was a Senior Girls counsellor for 3 years before becoming their Section Head. Joey is incredibly excited to be joining the management team as the Head Counsellor for Junior Boys and Inter Girls. While she’ll miss the Senior Girls section, she is excited to branch out and share her counselling expertise with the rest of camp. When she isn’t exploring the great outdoors or learning about molecules she spends her time debating international affairs with the Queen’s Model United Nations team, building model planes, or reading murder mysteries. Joey can’t wait for another unforgettable summer in her home away from home!
