A fabulous hot sunny Sunday at camp

Today started with a yummy Sunday brunch…. A few days ago I blogged about the trials and tribulations of our COVID times food service troubles. Am so happy to report that the camp kitchen has found its footing, and is doing much better. The food is once again delicious, fresh and coming out of the kitchen in timely fashion. The lesson here is that camp people – especially our wonderful   cooking team of 22 people – are infinitely flexible.
They’ve figured out how to get the food on the table for 500 people 3 times a day, while split into two cohorts that work and live completely separately. The food is delicious, the special diets are working well. It just took some time to figure out how to do it.
On another note, we’re antigen testing every single person in camp twice a week and it’s working smoothly. So far all negative!
We would never in a million years have chosen this COVID situation, but in almost two weeks of camp, we’ve learned that we can do it. And every day, every hour, the campers are teaching us what gratitude looks like: Their obvious joy, their shouts of delight, watching them run around camp together, reminds us why we’re here: To bring those happy smiles to children’s faces, when they most need it.
