The weather gods finally decided to smile upon us today and everyone’s spirits soared as the clouds parted and the sun showed it’s face for the first time in days. Things are winding up after our second day of programming, which included the first day of our new Film program, dance battles around camp, shrinky dinks at Arts and Crafts, and a lake full of sailboats, windsurfers, canoes, and kayaks.
We sent out our first round of intrepid canoe trippers, the Curve girls, who left looking strong, confident, and ready to take on any Algonquin adventure. And speaking of seniors and trip, many of our oldest campers are already getting up before breakfast to run, paddle, and portage to train for the epic “Brent Run” – we’re so proud of their drive and dedication!
With 2 days of activities under their belts, campers have started achieving their third class awards and were excited to see the new stickers they earn for these (see pic above)! We can’t wait to see who collects the most on their water bottles or paddles this summer!
Since we like to try new things at Arowhon, we experimented with a new lunch today: pastrami on rye bread with coleslaw (and quiche for the vegetarians). We did a vote on it after lunch and it seemed to be a hit! Accompanied by the incredible homemade soups (today’s options were cream of spinach or tomato noodle) and salad bar (featuring roasted veg and quinoa and cheesy potato salad), everyone was well-fuelled for an afternoon of fun.
Evening activities ranged from the ever-favourite Capture the Fire to seniors board game cafe, and the cookie fairies capped of the night with their magical visit to the Junior Girls.
The forecast continues to look bright and we can’t wait get out there for more fun in the sun tomorrow!
