Full Moon

The moon is full over Teepee Lake and several solo canoes just paddled across the front of camp  – Our campers never stop! Inter Boys were night sailing till a few minutes ago… Senior Girls got back from canoe trip today and said they’d had their best trips ever! Evening Activity for Junior and Senior Girls was Junior Senior night. Each Senior Girl had a Junior Girls little sister; they came to dinner in their duos, each duo dressed alike.. and sat together and did Evening Activity together…

It was windy this afternoon and rainstorms passed sporadically over camp. Max and I spent the afternoon on storm watch. When we do storm watch, our goal is to predict the weather so that we keep all our campers on the lake and on the land fully active – sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, swimming, kayaking, horseback riding, climbing etc. And also that if a thunderstorm is incoming we of course get everyone off the lake and off the climbing wall and off horses in order to keep them safe… To do that, we triangulate three data sources: We have one person in the office looking constantly at the Weather Canada radar and also paying attention to ThunderBolt, which is a digital lightning warning device (also used by gold courses). Max and I stay in constant radio contact with the person reading radar and ThunderBolt, while we sit on the lake in a motorboat “reading” the clouds, listening for thunder and looking for lightning… This afternoon we got really lucky! We didn’t have to cancel any activities… We got a few rain showers but no thunderstorm. Hurrah, because active campers are happy campers!
