Yesterday was Cotillion, our annual July banquet, and the Rustic Lounge show – both put on by the Senior Girls. The girls and their counsellors decorated the Main Lodge and turned it into a magical Legoland. Banquet menu was our traditional end-of-session banquet: Veg sushi, smoked salmon canapés, steaks, curly fries, Greek salad, vegetarian options and for dessert home-made chocolate truffles and chocolate-covered strawberries. After Cotillion the Senior Girls put on the Rustic Lounge show, a tradition at camp since the very first year of Arowhon, 1934. It’s a satiric revue of camp life and last night’s Rustic was hilarious and beautifully performed… Also yesterday two Inter seven-day canoe trips came home and as well all the Juniors got home from their three-day canoe trips – for many their very first canoe trip, which they reported was great…. At dinner last night and breakfast this morning several campers were carried on on the shoulders of their instructors because they had just passed high awards at the activities. Standing ovations ensued: Oh great joy when our entire community celebrates the hard work, and perseverance of children – for achieving goals that they set for themselves!… The role modelling doesn’t hurt either….
