Campfire!

The expected rain barely came at all today and the heat wave is still with us – but we have no complaints because we have such a refreshing lake to jump into to cool down! There was great wind in the afternoon for the 2nd and 3rd qualifying heats of the Wayne Peck sailing race – the biggest of the summer, named after 2 famous Arowhon alumni sailors. Each boat has to have 1 staff and 1 or 2 campers and the campers have to sail the majority of each race. The top 3 boats in each of the 3 qualifying races go on to race in the final… which will be happening tomorrow wind permitting! The winners will have their names immortalized on a plaque in the sail shed and will earn the respect of all of camp’s nautical enthusiasts.

In other news we had the first Friday night sing along of the month hosted by the Senior Girls (dressed in their traditional jeans and white shirts) – we sang some great classic tunes like Imagine, Time of Your Life, and the crowd favourite Hallelujah. The festive mood carried over into the evening campfire where the entire camp gathered under the rising stars to laugh at funny skits and stories, clap and stomp along with songs, and hear about why Arowhon “lifers” keep coming back for so many years to their beloved Planet Arowhon. We ended off with all the 10 year jacket recipients leading us in a moving chorus of “Friends Friends Friends” and you could feel the camp magic pulsing through everyone’s linked arms. We’re going to bed feeling warm and fuzzy and looking forward to another great day ahead!
