Teepee Lake Swimmers

One of the great things about camp is how much it motivates kids to challenge themselves. This morning after our famous Sunday sleep-in and brunch, fuelled by smoked salmon and chocolate croissants, 40 intrepid campers decided to swim between 1/4 mile and a full mile across Teepee Lake. Simultaneously 19 Inter Girls and Inter Boys left for a 7 day long canoe trip in Killarney Provincial Park. Normally swimming and tripping are the activities that people only do because they have to… so why did all these kids CHOOSE to take on these extreme physical and emotionally challenges? Because at camp, kids are not defined by how they look or what material things they have, but by how involved they are at activities and how much they push themselves. At lunch today, we will announce the swimmers in the Main Lodge and the entire camp will stand up and cheer for them. When the long trip arrives home, the entire camp will run from wherever they are to greet them. It is this culture of celebration of kids for their achievements that encourages them to go the extra distance… and it is through these challenges that our kids develop the confidence in themselves to do the stuff that’s hard because they know how great they will feel about themselves afterward.
